II. Short-Answer Questions

Jumpstart's mission is to work toward the day every child in America enters kindergarten prepared to succeed. To this end, we train and support caring adults to work in preschool classrooms with children from low-income backgrounds on language, literacy, social, and initiative skills for one year.
How will your involvement in Jumpstart tie into your past experiences and future goals?
Jumpstart's primary mission is to prepare children for kindergarten. In a typical week, a Jumpstart Corps member participates in two Jumpstart sessions in preschool classrooms with children; communicates with children's families; has two team meetings for reflection and planning; serves two to five hours in the child's classroom during the regular school day; reviews session materials to prepare for session; and completes paperwork, for a total of eight to 12 hours weekly. Which aspects of the program do you anticipate being easier for you? Which aspects will be more difficult? Why? Please comment on your ability to maintain a commitment like this.
As a Corps member, you will be working with diverse groups of people, including fellow Corps members, families of Jumpstart children, and teachers at local preschools. Many of these people may come from a different cultural and educational background than your own. What experiences or skills do you possess that prepare you to work effectively within diverse settings?
